Donors of Color Action (Action) was formed to leverage high net worth donors of color as a force for creating systemic racial equity. Systemic change requires flexible funding to build power in the political space and to engage in advocacy work that creates change for and accountability to communities of color. Donors of Color Action will engage our national network of high net wealth donors of color, organizers, and philanthropic professionals to use both their resources and their influence in the political space where our communities are most often under-represented. This under-representation results in racial disparity through policy and decision-making, and our interests will be reflected only when we are able to stand strong in those spaces.

Action is an affiliated but separate organization from Donors of Color Network. As a 501(c)(4) organization, Donors of Color Action engages in advocacy and political activities for which Donors of Color Network, a 501(c)(3) organization, faces legal limitations or restrictions. Having an Action Fund allows for support of critical political and advocacy work necessary when the goals are less direct service and more overall systems change. Our conversations with organizational leaders of color have also educated us to the ways that 501c4 grant support is widely considered more powerful and flexible funding for social and racial justice movement work.

Donors of Color Action’s purpose is to amplify the leadership and influence of BIPOC donors in order to build the power of communities of color to win systemic change for racial equity.
